If you haven’t logged on and tuned in to Getting Loopy!, you don’t know what you’re missing! This weekly online radio show on Blog Talk Radio is all about crochet and fiber. It’s cooler than a podcast because it’s interactive. During the live broadcast, listeners can dial in via telephone with questions or comments, or participate in a live chat session. The broadcast can also be downloaded via iTunes, giving it the portability of a podcast. Each show contains a contest for a crochet-related prize, which is another popular feature.

The program has already developed a strong following, with close to 3,000 downloads of the first six shows, and has received fan mail from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. New episodes are taped weekly on Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. EST. Previous guests include “Crochet Cheerleader” Dee Stanziano, designers Doris Chan and Amy O’Neill Houck, and Jess Forbes-Marshall and Casey Marshall, founders of Ravelry.com.

Upcoming shows will continue to focus on everything from design to technique, and include interviews with many other crochet industry leaders. There will even be a live feed direct from the market preview at this month’s Crochet Guild of America Chain Link conference (produced by the Knit & Crochet Show).

Designer and author Mary Beth Temple is the host of Getting Loopy!. She is the author of The Secret Language of Knitters (Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2007) and the upcoming Hooked for Life: Adventures of a Crochet Zealot (Andrews McMeel Publishing, spring 2009). Her design work has been commissioned by yarn companies including SWTC, Plymouth and Brown Sheep. Magazines, includingInterweave Crochet and Annie’s Attic, and several books have also featured her designs. Mary Beth’s new pattern line can be seen at HookedforLifePublishing.com.
